Labor is disappointed with the Morrison Government’s recently announced aviation support package.

Because of the Prime Minister’s failings on vaccines and quarantine, two of Australia’s biggest cities are in lockdown, state borders have slammed shut, and planes are sitting idle at airports around the country.

It is again aviation workers who are bearing the brunt of the Morrison Government’s failings.

But instead of helping all workers, the Government has created an arbitrary dividing line between those workers employed by airlines and those employed at separate ground handling or other ancillary companies. While we understand ground crew employed by airlines are included in the new support measures, the Morrison Government has continued to exclude those employed by airports or at companies like Dnata and Swissport.

Workers deserve support no matter who is their employer.

My Labor colleagues and myself will continue advocating for further support for this essential industry.
