The High Court’s decision came as a surprise to many of us. As a user of social media myself, I share your concern about people who have done nothing wrong being held liable for the actions of others.

 

Since it was only handed down recently, the full implications of the High Court’s decision remain unclear.

 

While defamation law is primarily the responsibility of state and territory governments, the federal government has an important leadership role to play.
